I’m using /item to load USDA items and I want to load the “extra” USDA specific fields such as those mentioned in https://gist.github.com/sourcec0de/6943477. This only seems to be possible with /search and not with item. Which makes no sense to me because I don’t really want to “search” as I already know the item id, and I want to make sure I only load that 1 item at a time. Am I missing something, is there a way to get the USDA items through /item method? I tried adding things like “fields=usda_fields” but that did not work.
There is not currently a way to access that information through view item. The extra USDA data was added as a specific feature request on the /search endpoint.
When our API 2.0 launches later this year, it will allow for expanded attributes on both search and item endpoints.
i’m going to use the Nutritionix api to view and search please help me,
special need of of USDA
Our API is designed to be used for search lookups primarily. The item ID is only made available from search. Can you explain a bit more about your use case for already having the item ID and just wanting to get the extended nutrients which are already available in search?
